Majestic Timber Frame Home With Tall Bents and Dutch Tenons
Clients: Alex & Christine Pressburger, Port Maitland, Yarmouth NS – Summer of 2006
We first had a chat with Alex in his office in the winter of 2004. Sometimes it takes two years or more for a project to come to life.
The large frame is a mixture of tall bents, with one tall 24’ post where the four valleys converge. Dutch tenons come to life at the end of the king posts.
We applied Sansin clear finish on the finished joinery in our Port Williams shop.
Dave Pashley and Trevor Hansen played a large part in seeing this large structure through completion.
As the shipping date came close, the rain had set everyone back a bit. One call to the general contractor, Gerald Robinson, resulted in a nice bed of straw being placed around the foundation in order to prevent the fresh, clean timbers from getting dirty. The wind and rain caused a few moments of anxiety and we had to call the crane off one morning.
The white stained tongue and groove provide a nice contrast to the frame. Gerald Robinson’s crew did a wonderful job finishing the project, and the clients obviously have good taste in décor.
There is talk of more timber framing here in the future.
