Hammerbeams
and diverse custom creative features
Head Lake, south of Minden, Ontario – 1996
While working at Northern Timberhouse as an employee, Richard was always challenged with the scope of projects the company would undertake. This one in particular stood out as there were so many custom elements.
The hammerbeam truss was prominent in the great room. Notice the black walnut wedges locking the Dutch tenons.

As the project evolved, someone came up with the idea to do some inlay with black walnut on the posts. The profile of the inlay had the same shape as the bottoms of the hammerbeam posts.
Finally, Richard was asked to apply his chip carving talents to one of the beams.
