Large
outdoor timber frame drive shed for dovetail log home
Back to Forrest Island near Sidney, BC — 2004
Twelve
years after working on a team of four to build the
main residence, we
were asked to construct a large outdoor drive shed.
Gateway Timberframes of Sidney called us to lay out
and cut all the joinery for the project.
It was fun to get back to the West Coast as we had spent 5 great years in the late 1980s there, log building.
The Douglas Fir plates were 8” x 14”.
The change in elevation on one end required careful layout.
Special thanks to Gene Burlock of Gateway Timberframes for hosting
us as well as Shawn Gale, an aspiring young timber framer
from Ontario who formed a great duo with Richard Cormier.
Island work is great, but can be slowed down by transport of materials to the site.
