(a) Gunstock archway
(b) Matching mantlepiece

The clients approached us about doing something with the plain walkthrough from kitchen to living room.  They got the idea after seeing the Plandowski’s timber archway.

We decided to use some our seasoned hemlock timbers as the grain just comes alive when stained.

We had the whole archway system laying on the kitchen floor all pegged, raised it in vertical position, and walked it into place and fastened it securely with heavy timber screws capped by plugs.

Features:

  • 6” x 10” gunstock posts
  • 6” x 12” arched header
  • 4” x 10” sweeping braces

We carried the same theme to the mantle by adding a 3” x 12” x 8’ piece of hemlock with chamfers on the leading edge. Heavy 4” x 12” corbels add grace to this feature piece.
