2-storey timberframe additionTwo-storey timber frame addition to an old farmhouse in Big Bras d'Or, Cape Breton, 2008

This was a fun project. It involved 18-foot corner posts of seasoned white pine, fully housed and wedged dovetail joists (below left) and a graceful archway on the first floor adjacent to the kitchen island (below right).

The second floor will provide space for creating music, reading, dreaming etc.

After careful prefitting in Wise Owl's shop (below left), the timbers were given a final dressing, then two coats of weathered wood stain from Sansin were applied (below middle). My wife Lisa and our three daughters were all on site for the raising. It was a nice spring weekend vacation in beautiful Cape Breton.
