Timber frame features added in three phases to a house under construction

Grafton, Nova Scotia – Spring of 2006

This was an interesting job, as it involved three different phases.

First, a full 2-storey walk-out balcony was crafted.  The general contractor Phil Barnett and his crew did a wonderful job finishing the upper part with a custom western red cedar railing and copper spindles.  The bottoms of the posts were dressed up nicely with local stone.

Upstairs, one walks out to the balcony from a cozy room with three elegant king post trusses facing a custom stone fireplace by master stone mason Bobby Smith.  It was definitely a challenge to fit the trusses in as the roof and walls were already built.

The third phase saw Wise Owl Joinery construct a custom timber porch with interesting angles.  The porch gives guests a hint that perhaps there is more timber framing to see inside.
