Our pavilion with antique brick floorSmall outdoor timber frame pavillion, gate and arbor, and antique brick patio

After close to 20 years of craftsmanship for others, we decided we should be enjoying some of our work in our own backyard!

This 10’ x 10’ pavilion is a small scale version of the Fox Hill Cheese House pavillion nearby.

curved eavesWe incorporated sweeping rafter tails, arched arbours, custom posts, boots and Eastern White Cedar shingles dipped in Lifetime preservative.  The 2” tongue and groove ceiling with a sage green stain gives great contrast to the beams.  Of course, colourful Adirondack chairs grace the area.

garden gate and arborhummingbird cutoutRichard’s wife Lisa has been very patient over the years, so one small token from Richard was to build her a Gate and Arbour.  The hummingbirds cut out in the pickets as well as custom gate hardware from the Snug Cottage Hardware Company from Ontario make for a pleasing job.

On a special note: Lisa and our two oldest daughters, Aimee and Nicole, do a great deal of staining on clients’ projects.

Update: 2008

Antique brick patioFinished patio and pavillionfirepit in foregroundIn the summer of 2008, we added 400 sprawling sq. ft. of 200-year-old, hand-fired antique bricks from the old beehive ovens of the Westville Coal Mine, Nova Scotia, for the patio.

Because the new patio is on a lower level than the existing patio, we created a nice custom-built hemlock bench/step transition.

There is plenty of space for a large crowd to gather, but it's small enough to feel cozy on cool summer nights by the firepit we built. This gem of an “outdoor room” gets a great deal of use.
